Similar to last year, Hollister’s Veterans Memorial Park will once again be the host site for three all-star tournaments this summer, including the 16- to 18-year-old Central California State Tournament beginning July 8.

In addition, Vets Park will also host the 13-year-old and 14-year-old Central California State Qualifier Tournament, both of which are set to begin on Saturday.

Last season, the Hollister ball park hosted three tournaments as well, including the state-qualifier tournaments for both the 13-year-olds and 14-year-olds, and the state tournament for the 14-year-olds.

It was the first time Hollister had hosted a state tournament since 2006, while last year was the first year San Benito Babe Ruth had hosted three tournaments in one season.

And they will do it all over again this summer.

This year’s state tournament will be for the 16- to 18-year-olds, who will not compete in a prior state-qualifying tournament (all teams advance directly to the state tournament). Games are set to begin July 8 and last through July 12, although no brackets were posted at press time.

Other state tournament sites include Madera (13s), San Luis Obispo (14s) and Lodi’s Kofu Park (13-15s), which will also be the site of the District 1 state-qualifier tournament for the 13- to 15-year-old age bracket.

The San Benito 13-15 Babe Ruth All-Stars will open District 1 competition on Friday against Lodi at 8 p.m., with the winner advancing to Saturday’s second round against Modesto at 1 p.m.

As for the 13- and 14-year-old state-qualifier tournaments, those will begin Saturday morning at 10 a.m., when San Benito 2 takes on Lodi in the 13-year-old bracket.

San Benito 1 and Tracy will square off at 1 p.m., while the 14-year-old bracket will commence at 4 p.m. between Lodi and Tracy. The 14-year-olds from San Benito and Modesto will then follow at 7 p.m.

All games will be held at Vets Park, located on the corner of Memorial and Hillcrest roads in Hollister.
