The San Benito boys varsity volleyball team lost 19-25, 25-18, 16-25, 23-25 at Monterey on Wednesday.

The Balers (0-3, 0-1 TCAL) were led with 10 kills by Thomas Rebecchi, and Peter Prak had six.

Jeff Hawks had 18 assists in his first game back from basketball. Jonathan Crepeau had five kills also in his first game.

Outside hitter Kyle Fowes, formerly a defensive specialist, had three kills.

Stephen Watson had seven kills for Monterey. The Balers had eight service aces.

“I am proud of the way they handled the pressure against a much more experienced team,” said coach Henke Mao.

JV note: The JV team won in two games. Anthony Parcell led the team with six kills. Miguel Ceja had four kills, and Josh Brown had three kills.

Tennis

The San Benito Live Oak tennis team lost Live Oak on Tuesday, 2-5. The Balers won their first meet of the year against North Salinas. All three doubles teams won. No.1 doubles (Spencer Gonzales and Andrew Pringle) won 7-5 and 7-5, with a tie-breaker. The No. 2 doubles wee Ryan Andrade and Ryan Wood.

In singles, Cameron Barker won in three sets.
