San Benito improves to 3-0 on the season with another win

The San Benito boys tennis team continued their quick start to the 2008 season Tuesday with a 5-2 win at Monte Vista Christian, and improved to 3-0 on the early season.

The two matches San Benito lost, however, were lost by two and seven points.

“The definitely had to work harder today,” coach Chris Yoder said. “And they’ll have to work harder tomorrow.”

The ‘Balers are slated to open their Tri-County Athletic League schedule at Gilroy today, Wednesday, at 3:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, it was the San Benito doubles that swept by MVC.

The No. 1 team of DJ Nielson and Jon Rudolfs won 6-0, 6-3 over Leo Fu and Sun Il, while the No. 2 pairing of Conner Baray and Michael Labuguen defeated Tony Mininni and Yu Tan 6-0, 6-3. Michael Frelier and Thomas Parcell also won their doubles match over Adrian Soria and Kevin Stier 6-1, 7-5.

In singles, No. 1 player Derek Panger won his match 6-2, 6-0 against Zack Nissen, but No. 2 Mark Tobias suffered a 5-7, 6-2 (10-8) loss to Peter Lee. MVC’s No. 3 player Ha Le beat ‘Baler Joe Frusetta 6-2, 0-6 (10-4), while San Benito’s Tony Culler upended James Klindt 4-6, 6-3 (10-5).

San Benito will play at Gilroy today at 3:30 p.m.
