Season opens

The San Benito High girls’ basketball team kicked off its 2007-2008 campaign with a 60-13 home win over Soledad High School. The Balers, who are now under the guidance of David Kaplansky, the former head coach of the boys’ varsity squad, are one of the favorites to win the Tri-County Athletic League title this season. On Saturday, the Lady Balers will look to go 2-0 when they travel to King City to face the King City High School Mustangs at 2 p.m. in a non-league game. The Balers first league game won’t take place until after Christmas vacation when they will host Salinas High at 7 p.m. on Jan. 4.
