Hollister High boys hoop has been an early juggernaut this summer. The Balers captured their second tournament in a row when they routed Oak Grove 55-32 in the title game of the 16-team Los Gatos Tournament on Sunday. For the weekend, the Balers chalked up wins over Leigh, Santa Teresa, North Valley (Reno), Prospect, Westmont and the Eagles.

It was the second tourney win for the Balers, having gone 5-0 in last weekend’s Watsonville Tournament. The Balers took two summer league games during the week and now have won 13 straight games.

“We played some quicker teams this weekend,” said Baler head coach David Kaplansky. “We’re defending fullcourt. These kids are more mature so I’m able to do more things.”

For starters, Kaplansky praised Kyle Sharp, Anthony Butler and Eric Davis for fine play.

“Sharp had a tremendous tournament,” said Kaplansky. “And Eric has been shooting the ball much better from the perimeter, which opens up angles for Anthony and Kyle.”

Kaplansky singled out Mike Moisa for great play off the bench, along with Danny Isaacson. Isaacson hit three treys in the win over Oak Grove.

The Balers are back in Hartnell Summer League play this Tuesday vs. North County at 5 p.m. This weekend, they’ll head south to play in the Santa Barbara Tournament.

“They’ll be a lot of good teams from Los Angeles,” said Kaplansky. “We’ll meet some great teams.”
