San Benito lost to Salinas 6-1 Wednesday, and will now look
ahead to the Tri-County Athletic League Finals at the end of the
month

Playing in their final regular-season match Wednesday, the San Benito boys tennis team fell to host Salinas 6-1, and will now prep for the upcoming league finals.

Finishing the year with a 6-6 record, the Haybalers will now look to make a section run at the Tri-County Athletic League Finals, which will be held on April 29-30.

San Benito will likely need to get past individuals from Palma and Salinas – the top two teams in the TCAL – and this week’s matches against those teams should give the ‘Balers an idea of what they’ll be up against.

On Tuesday, San Benito lost to Palma 6-1.

On Wednesday against Salinas, the ‘Balers got their lone win of the day at the No. 3 doubles, where Jade Kimura and DJ Nielson teamed up to upend Cowboys James Bravo and Tyler Simmons 6-2, 6-3.

Salinas’ No. 1 doubles pairing of Steve Bateman and Chris Barbeau, however, beat Tony Culler and Jon Rudolfs 6-0, 6-3, while Brennan Patton and Adam Krause defeated Joe Frusetta and Thomas Parcell 6-0, 6-4.

In singles, San Benito’s No. 2 Mark Tobias went to the third-set tiebreaker before falling to Ty Giacalone 6-3, 3-6 (8-10), whereas Salinas’ No. 1 Farren Casad won his match 6-2, 6-2 over Derek Panger.

Cowboy Aaron Osgood defeated Austin Pan 6-1, 6-2, and Ryan Shimizu made it a clean singles sweep for Salinas with a 6-2, 6-2 win against Conner Bray.

The ‘Balers are off until the TCAL Finals.
