Hollister – The San Benito High girls water polo team had little trouble with visiting Salinas on Thursday, winning 14-1.

Kathryn Adamek led the way with eight goals for the Balers.

“She’s really intense,” said coach Derek Kisling. “We needed her to step up this year even though she hasn’t played goal set before.”

Kisling did admat he was a little concerned after Adamek scored all four goals in the first quarter for the Balers (3-5, 12 TCAL).

“It took awhile for us to get going,” Kisling said. “But when we got more people involved, we were able to pull away.”

Brandy Russell, Jordan Telles and and Kaitlyn Lass had two goals each.

Krista Maisonneuve had five saves including a point blank save on a 4-meter shots. Salinas was kicked out 10 times in the game, while Hollister was kicked out just four times.

“As we started to move around more, the defense made more mistakes,” Kisling said.

Salinas (1-6, 1-3 TCAL) scored its only goal by Briana San Pablo on a steal two seconds before halftime. Adamek almost had a chance to answer back, but her shot hit the side bar.

The Balers were up 6-1 at the half. San Benito’s patience paid off in the second half, and the Balers were able to set up for several goals.
