San Benito will have to settle for its second goal – winning the Central Coast Section.

Notre Dame won 29-31, 19-25, 25-18, 17-25 Tuesday evening to secure the Tri-County Athletic League title.

“They played awesome, and we didn’t,” said San Benito coach Jennifer Beall said. “I thought it would be close, but we kept giving up runs. I don’t think we played our best defense. We missed several serves.”

In the first game, San Benito rallied back in the second rotation after Notre Dame took a sizeable lead. Beall said she was hoping the momentum would carry the team.

“Sometimes we just don’t come out focused,” Beall said.

Alyssa Fowles had 10 kills to lead the Balers. JT Temperino had nine and four blocks.

Emily Kortsen had five kills, and Leslie Schipper had five kills and two blocks.

Chelsea Fowles had 31 assists. Schipper had 13 digs. Michelle Sanchez had 11, and Alyssa Fowles added 10.

Leslie Schipper had five aces, and Alyssa Fowles had four.

San Benito (25-8, 7-2 TCAL) will finish up with Live Oak in Live Oak’s homecoming Thursday.

“Live Oak is a tough team,” Beall said. “That game will be crucial. If we played like we we played in league, there is no reason why we can’t be the CCS championships. We are going to practice hard and clean up our mistakes,”

The Balers could get as high as a No. 2 or No. 3 seed in the seeding meeting Saturday.
