The San Benito girls basketball team remained in first place in the league play with an exciting 55-52 OT win at Gilroy on Thursday.

The Balers (15-4, 2-0) were down by 13 points going into the final quarter, but they went on an 18-5 run to send the game into overtime.

“Our zone defense wasn’t working too well in the first half,” said Baler coach Tom Dean. “We switched up to man-to-man in the second and were able to get inside more.”

Trisha Lee scored 17 of her 22 points in the second half to help spark the Balers. And Jaime Hall came up big down low with 15 points and six blocks.

Dani Andrewson had four points. Courtney Almaguer, Jaime Flores, Cristina Osbourne and Mallorie Wilson each had three and Ashley Patton and Johni Kieswetter had one point.

“It was a good confidence builder for us to be down the whole game and steadily work our way back to tie the game and win it in overtime,” Dean said.

The Balers will be at North Salinas on Jan. 28 before Salinas visits Jan. 30.
