The San Benito baseball team lost 7-1 at Salinas on Tuesday.

“We did not hit well and make adjustments at the plate,” said coach Derek Barnes.

The Haybalers scored a run in the top of the first inning on two walks and an RBI double by Anthony Synegal. The Balers (7-7, 3-4 TCAL) had two on and no outs but did not score.

After Salinas pitcher Manny Martinez got the final three batters of the inning, he keep the San Benito hitters off balance.

Salinas answered with a run in the first inning without hitting a solid ball. A dribbler down the third-base line, a walk, an infield hit and a sacrifice fly to center field tied the game.

Salinas added two more runs in the second to go ahead 3-1 and broke the game open in the sixth when three runs were walked in with the bases loaded.

“It was frustrating to watch this game,” Barnes said. “We should have hit that pitcher better than we did.”

JV Note: The San Benito JV team defeated Salinas, 10-5. The Haybalers (11-2, 5-2 TCAL) had eight hits in the game and got off to a big start with eight runs in the first inning.

Brenden Flaherty went 4 for 4, Kris Bittner went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Jacob Boyd went 1 for 2 and Josh Torrise went 1 for 3.

Kyle Ferguson (4-1) picked up the win, going five innings. Brenden Flaherty and Kris Bittner each pitched an inning to finish off the game.
