The Balers suffered a 53-51 loss at Pacific Grove Tuesday night. Kyle Sharp fouled out in the middle of third quarter.
“It was a good game for us because a lot of guys stepped up and competed all the way to the finish,” said Baler coach David Kaplansky, whose team is now 10-3.
The Balers were outscored 14-5 in the fourth quarter.
“We missed so many layups and missed key free thows,” Kaplansky said. “We played very intense on defense and played solid overall. I accepted their enthusiasm and effort. We just have to make our layups and free throws. We could have been more productive.”
Eric Davis led the Balers with 11 points. Danny Isaacson had five points, and Mike Moisa played a solid game defensively, Kaplansky said.
Anthony Butler and Kevin Zanella both had eight points.
Pacific Grove was led by guard Troy Smith, who scored 25 points.
“He is a good player,” Kaplansky said. “We got on him early and denied him. But at times he was able to draw the contact. He went to the line nine times.”
The Balers will play against visiting St. Francis on Friday.
“Hopefully, we can show the same intensity we showed tonight while staying out of foul trouble and still being aggressive,” Kaplansky said.
