After one year in the Monterey Bay League equity league, the spring season next year will remain relatively the same for San Benito.

After finishing first or second in baseball, golf, softball, swimming and track in 2013, the Balers will remain in the upper Gabilan Division.

After a winless season, only the boys tennis team will drop from the Gabilan to the Pacific.

A major change, though, will come in baseball, as Gilroy will move from the Pacific up to the Gabilan after a league championship. The San Benito-Gilroy rivalry will be revitalized after playing only once in 2013.

The 2014 baseball Gabilan league will include Christopher, Gilroy, Monterey, Monte Vista Christian, Palma, Salinas and San Benito. The Chieftains won the league title in 2013, snapping San Benito’s seven-year championship streak.

In golf, Alvarez moves to the Gabilan, taking the spot of Monterey, which drops to the Pacific. San Benito will battle with Christopher, Alvarez, Monte Vista Christian, Palma and Salinas for a league title. Palma won the league in 2013.

With three Central Coast Section championships, the Gabilan division in softball will continue to be tough for the 8-time section champion Balers. Seaside moves to the Gabilan next year, switching with Monterey.

San Benito will battle Christopher, Gilroy, North Salinas, Notre Dame, Salinas and Seaside for the 2014 league title.

The Gabilan division will remain the same in swimming after the Balers took the girls championship and finished second with the boys. San Benito will once again face Alvarez, Monterey, Palma/Notre Dame, Salinas and Seaside during league play.

In track and field, Christopher moved to the Gabilan division, replacing Monterey. San Benito will face Alisal, Christopher, North Monterey County, North Salinas, Palma/Notre Dame and Salinas.

In tennis, San Benito moves to the Pacific Division, where they will face Alisal, Christopher, Alvarez, Monte Vista Christian and Pacific Grove. In 2012, San Benito won the league title before struggling in the Gabilan division this spring.
