Hollister resident Daniel Barone will make his second start today when the Florida Marlins host the Arizona Diamondbacks. The game will be the rubber match of a three-game series.
Barone, a 2001 graduate of San Benito High School, was called up last week from Triple-A Albuquerque and made his Major League debut last Friday at Shea Stadium against the New York Mets.
Barone received a no-decision in his first start on the mound for the Marlins. The 24-year-old righty threw 4 and 2-3 innings against the Mets, allowed five hits and two earned runs. He also walked four and struck out four and currently sits with a 3.86 ERA.
He pitched shutout baseball into the fifth inning until a Marlins throwing error and a bunt single by Luis Castillo set up a three-run homer by Carlos Beltran.
Barone will look to pick up his first Major League win against the Diamondbacks, who sit in first place in the NL West at 68-53. Barone will be opposite Arizona’s Livan Hernandez (8-7).
First pitch is slated for 4:05pm.
