The San Benito High baseball team has found its new manager – and it’s a familiar name.

Billy Aviles, who served as the team’s interim manager after head coach Jason Bugg was fired near the end of the season, will takeover as the team’s new head coach, Athletic Director Tod Thatcher announced Thursday.

After taking over as the interim manager May – right before the start of the postseason – Aviles led the 18-7 Balers to the Central California Section championship game before falling to Palo Alto on a walk-off hit. The Balers finished the season with a 23-9 record and 5-2 under Aviles.

Aviles will become the team’s second manager in two season after the departure of Michael Luna at the end of the 2010 season.

Aviles will be introduced as the new manager during a meeting with the team Friday.
