The San Benito High baseball team lost just its second contest
in the last 11 games on Thursday, as the Balers were held to two
hits and one run in a non-conference matchup with St. Francis in
Mountain View. Meanwhile, the Lancers, of the West Catholic
Athletic League, plated eight runs on eight hits, and downed the
visiting Balers by an 8-1 margin.

The San Benito High baseball team lost just its second contest in the last 11 games on Thursday, as the Balers were held to two hits and one run in a non-conference matchup against St. Francis in Mountain View.

The Lancers, of the West Catholic Athletic League, plated eight runs on eight hits and downed the visiting Balers by an 8-1 margin.

San Benito didn’t find the scoreboard until the seventh inning when Craig Slibsager knocked in the team’s lone run, plating Jacob Tonascia. Otherwise, the Balers were limited offensively and instead fell behind 6-0 through the first four innings.

Starting pitcher Cooper Sepulveda lasted just 1.1 innings, allowing four runs on one hit. He walked four batters and hit two others, striking out two batters as well.

Skyler Fuss came in for relief, pitching the next 4.2 innings, and allowed four runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out four. Tyler Pina (.1IP, 1BB) also pitched in relief for the Balers, who fall to 16-6 overall.

Ryan Jacob and Tyller Smith were the only two from San Benito to record a hit Thursday.

St. Francis, meanwhile, improves to 21-4 overall on the season.

The Balers will play again on Saturday in the championship of the Crown Classic tournament, hosted by Valley Christian High in San Jose. San Benito will square off against either Valley Christian or James Logan at 1:30 p.m.
