The game was called in the fifth inning due to the 10-run rule.

Despite plating 14 runs in the easy victory, Anzar connected on just six hits but capitalized on six errors by Hill.

Mendoza (3IP, 2H, 1R, 1K, 2BB, 1HBP) and Fredrickson (2IP, 1H, 1R, 3K, 2HBP) set the tone early for the Hawks, who jumped out to a 5-1 lead through just two complete innings.

Anzar’s Aaron Grimes led off the game with walk and, with one out, stole second before reaching third on a Blake Selsor single. Mendoza then helped his own cause with a sacrifice fly to score Grimes, while Holtzclaw followed with an RBI double to plate Selsor.

Up a pair of runs following the first frame, the Hawks then tacked on three more in the second behind three straight walks to open the inning. Fredrickson then connected on a sacrifice to score his brother, Will Fredrickson, while several errors and pass balls by Hill followed, allowing Anzar to score two more times in the inning.

Errors and pass balls helped Anzar post a 6-spot in the third inning, a frame aided by Mendoza’s bases-clearing, three-RBI double.

Mendoza finished 2 of 4 at the plate with four RBI, while Grimes scored three runs and had two stolen bases.

Anzar manager Andrew Barragan said the Hawks’ leadoff man reached in four of the five innings, allowing the visitors to easily plate runs in each of the five innings recorded.

The Hawks are now 1-0 on the season.

The team will hit the road again on Friday when it will travel south to Soledad. First pitch is 3:30 p.m.
