The Hollister National 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars forced a winner-take-all second game against San Ramon on Thursday night when they defeated the Section 3 representative 3-1 in the NorCal Division II Tournament championship at Chico Eastside Little League.
The two teams will square off once again on Friday night at 7 p.m., with the winner walking away with the NorCal crown.
Since falling to second-round opponent Sutter Buttes last Sunday, one-loss Hollister National has won four straight games through the elimination bracket, defeating Lincoln (15-3), Petaluma National (7-6), Sutter Buttes (7-2) and San Ramon (3-1) on Thursday night.
It was the first loss of the double-elimination tournament for San Ramon, which had entered the championship round undefeated at 3-0 and had outscored its previous opponents by a 45-4 margin.
Meanwhile, the news wasn’t as good for both the Hollister Junior League All-Stars and the Hollister National 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars.
The Junior League team, which was playing at American River College in Sacramento, fell by a 2-1 score to undefeated Rocklin in the NorCal championship on Thursday night. Hollister would have needed to upend Rocklin twice in order to claim the Division II title.
It was the same story for the Hollister National 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars, which entered Thursday night’s Division II championship at Vacaville’s Centennial Park with one loss to their record, and would have needed to win twice in order to take the NorCal championship.
Up against Napa National, though, the boys in blue were shutout by a 6-0 margin.
