The Balers (5-2 TCAL, 7-4 overall) lost 3-1 at Salinas High School on Monday in a makeup game, and they dropped another outing Tuesday at home to Palma, 2-1.

Those results created a logjam at the top of the TCAL standings, with four teams in the race for the title.

Balers ace pitcher Darren Gillies (2-1 in five appearances) earned his first loss of the season Tuesday. The Balers now stand in second place in the league at 5-2. Palma stands in first place with a 8-0-1 record. Gilroy is just behind the Balers at 7-3-1, and Salinas is at 5-5-1.

In other action this week:

The Gavilan College baseball program dropped two games to start the week as well. Gavilan lost 14-4 on at home Monday to Monterey Peninsula College. The Rams then lost Tuesday in Fremont to Ohlone College. Gavilan dropped to 2-9 in league and 6-15 overall.
