Hollister native
Hollister native Benjamin Alvarez “Bengie” Lujan Jr. died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003 in Rancho Mirage. He was 44.
Mr. Lujan was born in Hollister and attended local elementary schools before moving to Coachella, where he lived for 33 years and owned and operated a janitorial service for 20 years. After his marriage in 1977, he returned to Hollister and worked part-time for the City of Hollister and for Teledyne McCormick Selph.
He was an elder and evangelist of People of Harvest Fellowship Church in Indio and an area commander of the Royal Rangers.
He is survived by his wife of more than 25 years, Maria J. Aguilar of Coachella; his children, Elias and Eliseo, both of Indio; his sisters, Veronica Rodriguez of Hollister and Bernice Tamez of La Quinta; his brothers, Robert and James Lujan, both of Rancho Mirage, and Richard Lujan of Indio; his father and stepmother, Benjamin and Aurelia Lujan of Coachella; his aunt, Mickie Luna of Hollister; six grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lydia Alvarez.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at People of Harvest Fellowship Church in Indio. Graveside services will follow at Coachella Valley Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of FitzHenry Funeral Home Desert Chapel in Coachella.
Memorials are preferred to the Royal Rangers in care of the People of Harvest Fellowship Church in Indio.
