Scoring on the play was Louis Rayas, whose run gave BeVo’s Pizzeria a 17-16 defeat of Seven Oaks Construction Monday evening in a Hollister Recreation Division II co-ed playoff game at Vets Park. Rayas led off the inning with a walk, which nets two bases for men per co-ed rules.

BeVo’s had this game well under control going into the top of the seventh as it held a hefty 16-6 lead. Megan Shutz’ RBI single started Seven Oaks’ miracle rally to tie it up. Ryan Jiminez’ run-scoring single made the score 16-9. Tom Dickens drove in two more runs with a single.

The hits kept coming for Seven Oaks. Tom Shutz had an RBI double. Becca Guttierez’ swinging bunt down the third baseline scored Dickens, who barely beat BeVo’s third baseman Kevin Mead, who chased Dickens with the ball in glove for about six yards. Almost all of the runs were scored with two out. Erica Dickens kept the inning alive with a rip-roaring triple to left over the head of Rayas. T.J. Dickens, who is fairly automatic at the plate, doubled to center to score wife, Erica, and tie the game.

BeVo’s had taken command with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth. Rayas tripled off the left field fence for one run. Mead’s double was good for two RBI’s. Seven Oaks’ defense let its guard down a few times throughout the game, which helped BeVo’s cause. Jackie Yuste’s swinging bunt gave BeVo’s a 15-6 lead.

Only one home run was hit and that was by T.J. Dickens, who hit one over the left field fence off BeVo’s Gino Andrade in the top of the second. Andrade, who wore the number 911 on the back of his jersey, had the line of the night.

“There was a 40-mile per hour wind blowing to left,” he remarked from the pitcher’s mound area.

A bloop RBI single by Robert Jiminez put Seven Oaks up 3-1.

In the bottom of the second, Andrade’s RBI single was lost in the sun in left for 3-2 Seven Oaks. A Seven Oaks error knotted the score 3-3.

Andrade’s two-run single in the bottom of the third put BeVo’s up 6-4. A single by Mead gave BeVo’s a three-run lead.

In other Division II co-ed games Monday, Cedar Valley played Kovanda and top-seed The Crew met Chicago Title. The first half playoffs continue this week and next week.
