Off the Chain Bikes is now selling the Torker T-400e, an electric-hybrid bicycle.

“What I like about this bike is it still is a bicycle – you must pedal to make it go,” wrote Off the Chain Bikes owner Brian Lucas in an e-mail. “You can cruise up to 15 miles an hour with very little effort.”

A press release from the company that makes it notes: “You begin by pedaling the bike as you would a traditional bike, but as you reach a certain speed (approximately four to five mph) the Protanium systems assists your pedaling and gives you the sensation of the wind at your back.”

Lucas does suggest that interested customers come in for a test ride, as “you will not understand it until you test ride this one.”

The bike is equipped with the Protanium ELI battery, and can take riders up to 40 miles per charge.

Off the Chain Bikes is located at 341 Tres Pinos Road, No. 106, and can be reached at 636-0802.
