Residents of Central California concerned about public land management are invited to seek appointment to a regional committee that advises the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
The Central California Resource Advisory Council advises BLM officials in the Hollister, Bakersfield, Bishop and Mother Lode field offices. The latter office oversees the Sacramento region.
The BLM manages 15 million acres of public land in California – nearly 15 percent of the state’s total land area. The resource advisory councils, composed of 12 to 15 citizens with unique experience in natural resource issues, help BLM manage its public lands to serve multiple needs.
Three council positions are vacant on the Central California council. One is designated for a member representing an environmental, archaeological, historical, recreational or wild horse and burro organization. Two are for members representing state or local government, Indian tribes, academic institutions or a member of the public-at-large.
