The federal Bureau of Land Management is seeking public nominations for three positions on its Central California District Resource Advisory Council, which advises the agency on public land issues.

The 12-member council represents broad natural resource interests, including livestock grazing, environmental groups, recreation, wild horse and burro management, history and archaeology, the academic sector, local government and the public at large.

The Central California District Advisory Council advises Bureau of Land Management officials for the Hollister, Mother Lode, Bakersfield and Bishop offices.

Nominations are due May 2.

The three open positions include one for public land ranchers and representatives of organizations associated with energy and mineral development, the timber industry, transportation or rights of way, off-highway vehicle use and commercial recreation.

Two positions are for representatives of nationally or regionally recognized environmental organizations, archaeological and historical organizations, dispersed recreation activities, and wild horse and burro organizations.

Individuals may nominate themselves or others for the positions. Nominees must be residents of the state or states in which the council has jurisdiction and should demonstrate a commitment to consensus building and collaborative decision making. They will be judged on the basis of their training, education and knowledge of the council’s geographical area, according to a bureau news release.

All nominations must be accompanied by letters of reference from any represented interests or organizations, a completed background information nomination form, and any other information that speaks to a nominee’s qualifications. Nomination forms and additional information are available on the website at http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/info/rac/ccrac.html, or by calling David Christy, (916) 941-3146.

Nominations should be sent to David Christy, BLM Central California District public affairs officer, 5152 Hillsdale Circle, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762, or via e-mail to [email protected].

The Central California Resource Advisory Council will meet April 8 and 9 in Nevada City. A business meeting will be held 8 a.m. April 8 at the Seaman’s Lodge in Pioneer Park, 425 A Nimrod St., Nevada City, and will be followed by an afternoon field trip to BLM lands in Nevada County.

The meeting and field trip are open to the public. Field trip participants must provide their own transportation and lunch.

The April 9 meeting will begin at 8 a.m. at Seaman’s Lodge, with public comment scheduled from 9 to 10 a.m.
