Hot rods on a hot day at Street Festival

The 27th annual Downtown Hollister Street Festival and Car Show was held July 20, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in downtown Hollister. The Hollister Downtown Association once again offered a slice of free watermelon to guests during the summer festival, with food vendors and local restaurants open during the event. The festival featured the annual car show, along with musical entertainment on two stages. This year, a beer and wine garden was included for the first time. The local American Legion used the event for an annual membership, with the American Legion Auxiliary raffling off a prize gift basket that was full of car cleaning supplies. Many families came out to get a look at classic cars that ranged from pre-1970 Volkswagen beetles to a 1946 Ford Sedan.

Local VFW seeks help for upcoming events

The VFW Post 9242 is requesting volunteers to help with a Memorial Day event on May 27 and with the upcoming Hollister Motorcycle Rally, from July 3-7. On Memorial Day, volunteers and members of the public will gather in San Juan Bautista at the Leslie L. Garrett Post 6359 at 8:30 a.m. and proceeding to Hollister. During the biker rally, the VFW members will partner with the American Legion Post 69 to work at the Veterans Memorial Building in exchange for a percentage of the proceeds from the rally. They will also be selling food in the annex as a fundraiser. Those interested in volunteering for either of event as Honor Guard may call Paul Arballo at 636-0794 or 207-2852 or those interested in set up or clean up may call Mike Pulido at 637-6015 or 637-6670.

Home built in Hollister will go to injured veteran

Local residents are invited to a groundbreaking ceremony for a unique homebuilding project in Hollister on Saturday at 10 a.m., at 254 Rosebud Avenue, near Santa Ana Road.
