San Benito County maintained its reputation as a bastion of agriculture again in 2011 when the value of local crops and livestock increased by $8 million over numbers from 2010.
San Benito County supervisors approved two contracts last Tuesday with agencies that will guide the community through the first phase of creating a special district to support parks, recreation and library services.
1.) Baler Summer Nights: The Baler Backers Athletic Organization is holding its annual dinner/dance and auction fundraiser in support of San Benito High School’s Haybaler Athletic Program, Aug. 18, at the San Benito County Fairgrounds/Bolado Park, from 6 p.m. to midnight, with the dinner served between 7 and 8 p.m. Entertainment is being provided by local band favorite Soul Kiss. Tickets for the 21+ event are $50 each and table reservations of eight are also being accepted. There will be a Live & Silent Auction to raise funds for Baler Athletics, which has seen a severe reduction in its funding due to state budget cuts which have affected California’s school system. San Benito County school and government buildings had their flags lowered to half staff today in honor of the victims of the tragedy in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, by executive order of President Barack Obama. The flags will be flown at half staff until sunset today.
