Dogs can sniff out trouble on campus

San Benito High School students have some regular visitors who come to campus two to three times a week - a pair of golden retrievers named Ranger and Sparks, along with their handlers Sean and Janelle Haggett.

Yule Benefit Concert: The Rock Guitar Club will host the Yule Benefit Concert Dec. 1 at the San Benito High School auditorium. Proceeds will be split between the Hollister Animal Shelter and helping cover the cost of advanced placement tests. Featured performers include Smith Alley, Subtle Agenda, Conserve, Burned on the Stake, Dark Horse, Battalion and Trophy Kids (who recently signed with a label in Los Angeles.) Tickets are $10 at the door.

Governor appoints local to 33rd Ag District board

Governor Jerry Brown has appointed Jennifer Coile, 58, of Hollister, to the 33rd District Agricultural Association, the San Benito County Fair Board. The positiondoes not require Senate confirmation and offers no compensation. Coile has been a technical assistance provider at Training and Development Associates Inc. since 2011 and a project manager and interim housing coordinator at the City of Marina Economic Development Division since 2006.

Top 5: Veterans Day festivities; ‘Sounds of Brass’ and more

Veterans Day Parade: The Veterans Day Parade will take place Sunday, Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m. in downtown Hollister. The day's festivities will start with a resource fair for veterans, a moment of silence at 11:11 a.m. and a barbecue lunch at noon, followed by the parade.
