Less than a year ago, Cathy Frusetta and Berenice Bribiesca were only hoping to contribute to the San Benito tennis team in 2011. For Bribiesca, now a senior, it was her first year playing tennis. Frusetta, meanwhile, was trying to gain experience in exhibition matches.
Behind a team of juniors and no seniors, the San Benito girls tennis team surprised the Tri-County Athletic League and finished in second place last fall. A year later, in the Gabilan Division of the new Monterey Bay League, expectations are sky high for the Balers.
Coming off a second-place finish in the final season inside the Tri-County Athletic League last year, the San Benito girls tennis squad returned to the court Tuesday, losing to Carmel 6-1.
San Benito senior Kyle Skinner waited nearly four years to experience a team-based tennis playoffs. This year, thanks to a perfect 10-0 record inside the Tri-County Athletic League’s Mountain Division, Skinner and the Balers accomplished that goal.
