Supervisors debated today before narrowly approving the spending for the county librarian’s plans to attend a conference in Washington, D.C.

County Librarian Nora Conte is scheduled to take the trip to the 2010 American Library Association Conference in the nation’s capital from June 23 through June 29. It is set to cost $2,070.

Supervisors approved spending for the out-of-state trip in a 3-2 vote. Supervisor Jaime De La Cruz, who backed out of the Reno trip less than two months ago for a National Association of Counties conference this summer, was among the dissenting voters in the decision.

Board members had approved De La Cruz’s trip to Reno, while supervisors also expressed a need at the time to watch such expenditures closely. San Benito County faces continued revenue declines, largely due to the state’s budget crisis and the down economy.
