Hollister – The San Benito County Board of Supervisors will consider revising the county’s hillside development ordinance on Tuesday.

County Planning Director Art Henriques said supervisors have expressed interest in creating design guidelines to clarify and add specifics to the hillside ordinance. Supervisors Anthony Botelho and Don Marcus have said they’re concerned that the ordinance is overly restrictive.

The county currently limits subdivisions on hillsides with a slope greater than 15 percent to four houses, which are limited to 28 feet in height and 10,000 square feet in floor area.

According to Henriques, no project has been affected by the ordinance since it was approved in 2004.

The ordinance’s defenders have argued that restrictions are necessary to rein in the runaway development the county saw in the 1990s.

If the supervisors decide to change the ordinance, they’ll have to vote on the decision at a later meeting.

The meeting will begin at 9:30am Tuesday in the County Administration Building.
