Across John Smitth Road, looking across from the landfill, will be the new location of the Resource Recovery Park.

County supervisors Tuesday night took the most important step yet toward developing a Resource Recovery Park next to the landfill.
After continuing a public hearing from last week, supervisors voted 3-2 to approve rezoning the 30-acre agriculture site to a new designation, “Resource Recovery Park.” The approval allows the board to move toward preparations for the site such as addressing road issues and choosing businesses allowed in such a park, which caters to recycling-related operations.
It also signals momentum for the controversial proposal, with three supervisors expressing support not only for a resource recovery park, but also for the particular location next to the John Smith Road Landfill. Supervisor Jaime De La Cruz initially indicated support for the proposal in his comments but then joined Supervisor Jerry Muenzer, who represents the John Smith Road district, in opposing that specific site for a Resource Recovery Park.
They were out-voted, however, and so it appears imminent the project will move ahead.
Supervisor Anthony Botelho told the crowd in attendance that “by no means” is the Resource Recovery Park “a detriment” to their neighboring properties – which drew laughter from some in the audience. Botelho said in general, people sometimes fear change.
“We certainly can do this without infringing on your quality of life,” Botelho said.
