Supporters of the ban against fracking and limits on oil production watch proceedings from the front row of the board chambers.

County supervisors Tuesday voted 4-1 in sending a group’s proposed ordinance to the November ballot that would ban fracking and limit oil activities.
The board’s vote followed a public hearing in which members of the San Benito Rising group spoke for the proposed ordinance pushing to create a countywide ban against hydraulic fracturing, the method of extracting natural gas, and prohibit all oil activities in rural zones of the county.
Supervisor Margie Barrios had the dissenting vote. Barrios said she opposed fracking, but wanted to see a cost analysis before sending it to voters. Supervisors had three options Tuesday: Send it to the ballot, approve the ordinance outright or request the fiscal analysis.
