Oxnard – Four boxers from the Bull Dog Boxing Gym in Hollister, who were short funds to attend the State Police Activity League Boxing Tournament, were supplied with some last-minute donations to attend the state tourney, and so far, are not disappointing.

Boxers Matt Bribiescas, Jorge Hernandez, Eric Delgado and Mike Conley all remain alive in the PAL tournament, taking place in Oxnard this weekend.

Conley, a 275-pound heavyweight who hadn’t fought at all, has already qualified for the championship match in his respective weight class. The championship is scheduled for Sunday.

Bribiescas, Hernandez and Delgado will all fight today in the semifinals of their respective weight classes, with the hope of advancing to Sunday’s championship bout.

“They’re looking very good,” said Zeke Lopez, owner of the Bull Dog Boxing Gym. “They’re going to be all right.”

As of Wednesday, the four local boxers did not have enough money to attend the tournament, which began on Thursday. However, last-minute donations from Lyn Vandorvort, Tri-County Powder Coating, Hollister Paint, The Hair Shop, Eight-Ball Bail Bonds, One Stop Door, Brent Redmond Transportation, Benson Automotive, Progressive Tamale Factory and A and R Doors ensured the fighting foursome of a trip to the PAL state tournament.
