The San Benito High cross country team has had a strong start to the 2005 season. The team’s members have been setting new course records at Park Hill here in Hollister and have been posting times that far exceed early-season standards.

This past Saturday, the Haybalers traveled to Salinas to compete against more than 15 teams and had more success as they prepare not only for the Tri-County Athletic League season, but for this weekend’s Stanford Invite, one of the country’s biggest meets.

Hollister’s Amanda Boyd kept up with her scorching early-season pace, leading the field at Toro Park with a final time of 18:32 for first place.

Sophomore Alison Meyer posted a time of 21:18 and fellow sophomore Christina Albright ran a 22:04, helping the ‘Balers to a fourth-place finish as a team.

The boys race also saw the Haybalers take home a fourth place finish as a team. Rigo Vasquez finished fourth overall with a time of 15:58, the best time he has ever turned in at Toro Park. Vasquez’s time on Saturday was outstanding for this early in the season, as were the times turned in by freshman runners Adrian and Erik Rodriguez. The two brothers finished at 17:30 and 17:40 respectively.

Andrew Yaconone finished in 17:47 and Lance Villasenor ran a 17:57.
