The Baler JV soccer team ended its 2003-04 season with a 2-2 tie against Palma on Tuesday night.

“The field was dry and hard, which made for a fast game for both teams,” said Baler coach Graham Wright.

Palma jumped out in front first with a goal in the 12th minute on a breakaway. That goal was only the second allowed by goalie Braulio Moreno all season.

The Balers matched the score with a strike off a free kick from Eddie Trujillo to Jose Diaz DeLeon in the 20th minute. Diaz DeLeon scored again before the half on a throw-in to put the Balers up. But the lead was short lived as Palma tied the score minutes later.

The strong defense of Christian Mercado, Alden Wiltse and Jose Carlos Vasquez kept Palma away from the net in the second half. Forwards Jorge Ortega, Jose Serrano and Miguel Guzman had some good chances to score. The Balers ended the season with a record of 9-6-3 overall and 6-2-2 in T-CAL.

The leading scorer was Joel Aguilar, and the assist leader was Armando Espinoza.
