Business After Hours event

This month’s Business After Hours event from the San Benito County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau will be hosted by the Friends of the San Benito County Free Library, at the library, 470 Fifth St., from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Open mic night

There will be an open mic night at the Blak Sage Gallery, 727 San Benito St., in Hollister, May 11, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Admission is free. Each reader or performer will perform in the order in which they sign up. Any type of poetry, prose, music or song is welcome. Details: Joe Navarro at 634-0263 or Black Sage Gallery at 636-9100.

Candidate forum

The San Benito County Farm Bureau will host a candidates forum May 10, at 6 p.m., at Hollister City Hall. Candidates for the supervisors races in District 1, 2 and 5 have been invited as well as candidates for the 30th Assembly District and United States Congress.

Saddle Horse parade

The San Benito County Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau is accepting entries for the 2012 Saddle Horse Show Parade, scheduled for June 21, in downtown Hollister. The parade is limited to 80 entries, and forms are due June 15, by 4 p.m. Entry fees are $30 for single entry or vehicles, $50 for two vehicles, or free for public safety or local school marching bands. CASA Texas Hold ’em

CASA of San Benito County presents Cards for a Cause, a Texas hold ’em poker tournament May 12. A barbecue dinner will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m., and the tournament follows from 6 to 10 p.m. Cost is $75 and includes dinner and chips. There will be a raffle. Details: (831) 637-4992.

Save the Music pancakes

San Benito High School’s cafeteria area will be transformed into an interactive art zone on May 12 and 13, from 1 to 5 p.m., with exhibits, multimedia shows and a stage during the annual Arts Out Loud celebration sponsored by the school’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts. Demonstrations and workshops will allow hands-on fun as more than 500 artists and entertainers will have their work on display, including a special graduating senior showcase. An artists’ reception will be held in the cafeteria with free refreshments supplied by parents and local businesses. An awards presentation will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday to recognized outstanding achievements as judged by local artists. Original student artwork will be available at “before they are discovered.”

Aromas gardens

The Aromas Country Garden Tour is May 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with Aromas Hills Artisans guild showing and selling artwork in country gardens around the town. Tickets are $15 per person or two for $25, and AHA members and seniors 65 or older are $10 each. The ticket stub enters visitors in a drawing to win the artwork featured on the cover of the tour booklet. Tickets and maps are available at the Aromas Grange, at the corner of Rose and Bardue Avenue. A master gardener will be on hand at the Grange to ask questions about gardening.
