Methods for decorating Easter eggs have varied across cultures and history. Hard-boiling eggs is thought to have come out of the Lenten tradition – when Catholics did not eat meat or dairy during the weeks leading up to Easter.

Government relations

The San Benito County Chamber of Commerce & Visitor’s Bureau  Government Relations Committee will hold a meeting at 9 a.m.  Wednesday at the chamber office, 650 San Benito Street, suite 130, to  discuss upcoming issues that may affect business in our community. If  you are interested in being a part of the committee or just finding  out more, you’re welcome to attend.

School forum

The Hollister School District classified staff union, CSEA Chapter  625, is hosting a parent and community forum April 4, from 6 to 7:30  p.m. in Paine’s Banquet room. They will discuss cuts to the music and  sports programs, school budget, libraries and computer labs closures,  layoffs and cuts, how it affects children and education, priorities  of the board members and district administration and will answer  questions about the issues. Earthquake walk

Join geologists from Pacific Geotechnical Engineering for an  informative walk and talk through downtown Hollister 9 a.m. April 14,  and get up close and personal with the world-famous Calaveras Fault.  See where the fault runs and the damage that active fault movement is  causing. Learn what it means for future earthquake probabilities,  effect on property values and more. Meet at the Chamber office, 650  San Benito St., Ste. 130, for coffee and then head out on the one- hour stroll. The event is free. Details: 637-5315.

Stage company’s ‘Narnia’

The San Benito Stage Company presents “Narnia,” C.S. Lewis’ tale of  “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” The show opens April 13, with  additional shows on April 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 7 p.m., and  matinees on April 15 and 22, at 2 p.m., at the Granada Theater, 336  Fifth St., in Hollister. General admission is $15, students and  seniors are $12, and group packs are available for advance purchase  for $40 for four tickets. Library Week

The San Benito County Free Library will celebrate its 95th  anniversary during National Library Week, April 9-13. All programs  are free to attend. April 10 activities include a teen video project  with CMAP, from 3 to 6 p.m. April 12 activities include a customer  appreciation day with refreshments and a technology demonstration,  from noon to 4 p.m., a family literacy night VIP story time and  puppet show, from 5:30 to 6 p.m., Chamber Music, from 6:30 to 7:30  pm., unveiling of a new library logo and appreciation ceremony, from  7 to 7:10 p.m., Evening of the Stars volunteer and literacy tutor/ learner reception and literacy essay contest winners announced 7:10  to 8 p.m. April 13 there will be a movie night from 5:30 to 8 p.m.,  with the movie to be announced. There will be a local history display  up throughout the week, children’s programs and AWE early literacy  computers and an art contest. Details: 636-4107

Easter egg hunt

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9242 and the Ladies Auxiliary will  host the annual Easter egg hunt April 7, at 1 p.m. There will be  three age groups for the hunt – 2-4-year-olds; 5-7-year-olds and 8-10- year-olds. There will be some special eggs in the hunting area.  Parents will not be allowed in the hunt area. Children that do not  find any eggs will be able to get some from the command post.  Designated areas will be set up for parking.
