Hollister National Junior Basketball is holding registration for the league’s upcoming 11th season in October for boys and girls in grades three through eight.

Teams are divided by gender and grade, with divisions for third and fourth grade; fifth and sixth grade; and seventh and eighth grade. The season, beginning in November, includes a minimum 10-game schedule and a playoff tournament.

Registration costs $260 per player that covers the cost of gym rentals – including two hours of practice per week, minimum – referees, uniforms, insurance, pictures, equipment, clinic attendance, all-star fees and administration.

To select teams, the league is holding three sessions of skill evaluations at the Rancho San Justo Middle School gym located at 1201 Rancho Drive. Players can register there.

The sessions begin Sunday starting at 1 p.m. for players in grades three and four. The fifth and sixth grade session begins at 2:30 p.m. and the seventh and eighth grade session starts at 4 p.m. Each evaluation session is one hour.

The evaluations will also be held Oct. 9 and Oct. 16 at the same time and location.

Every player is required to attend at least one session with full payment. Players will be evaluated on their running, dribbling and shooting skills. All players who register will be placed on a team.

Late sign-ups and make-ups will be held Sunday, Oct. 23.

The league is holding preseason open gyms for all ages on Thursdays through Oct. 27 at Rancho from 5:30-7 p.m. A $2 per player fee will help cover the cost of the gym rental.

NJB requires that all players receive two full quarters of playing time per game as a way to develop participants’ confidence in and enthusiasm for the sport.
