Shelton earns LUTCF status

HOLLISTER – Andrew Shelton of the New York Life Insurance Company has earned been selected as a Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow.

Life Underwriter Training Council Fellow program teaches product knowledge and sales skills for persons interested in pursuing a career in insurance and financial services.

The LUTCF is taught by experienced financial service leaders by combining essential product knowledge with basic planning concepts. The LUTCF has helped thousands of insurance professionals assist their clients. The American College and National Association of Insurance and financial Advisors (NAIFA) jointly confer the LUTC Fellow designation. Classes are kept small, emphasize individual participation, and teach through extensive use of assignments that require insurance Professionals to apply what they learn from the text and in the classroom.

In addition to the LUTCF, Andrew has renewed his Certified in Long Term Care designation. CLTC program is the long-term care insurance industry’s only independent professional designation. Created in 1999, the course is focused on the field of long-term care planning and provides legal, accounting, insurance and financial service professionals the critical tools necessary to address the subject matter with their middle-age clients.

The goal is to teach students how to create a plan that preserves the emotional, physical, and financial wellbeing of a client’s family should care be necessary. Once established, options to fund that plan, including, Medicare, Medicaid, the Veterans Administration, self-funding and long-term care insurance, are reviewed and recommended where appropriate.

Rural Development Corp partners with Rabobank

SALINAS – California Coastal Rural Development Corporation is partnering with Rabobank, N.A. to help small farmers in key areas of California obtain financing for operations, equipment and crop production. Cal Coastal is one of two companies chosen to administer the $15 million fund.

“We are excited by the prospect that this investment could have a $150 million impact on small farm lending in California,” said Frank Bravo, of Rabobank, in a press release.

Cal Coastal will use the investment to establish a revolving loan fund that will be directed toward small agricultural and farm-related loans originated by the organization. The geographic locations focused on include San Benito, Napa, southern Santa Clara, Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, Riverside, San Bernardino, Imperial and San Diego counties.

Loans and grants to help homeowners with energy efficiencies

HOLLISTER – Homeowners in San Benito County and 19 other counties in California can be part of the CHF Residential Energy Retrofit Program, which offers grants and low-interest financing to make energy efficiency improvements to homes. CHF is a government agency that helps low-to-moderate income families get into homes.

Improvements that qualify include caulking and sealing a home, improving insulation, installing new windows, water heaters or heating and air conditioning systems.

“Every situation is different,” said Carolyn Holmes, the CHF marketing director, in a press release. “But, in the past few months, we have approved several projects where the homeowner is expected to see a 28 percent or more reduction in their annual energy cost after all the energy efficiency improvements are made to the home.”

The program helps homeowners finance improvements with a 3 percent fixed interest rate 15-year loan. Those who qualify for loans are also eligible for a grant up to $1,250 per home to put towards the project cost.

SBC Fair will display Central Coast wines

TRES PINOS – The San Benito County Fair will display the winners of the Central Coast Wine Competition, which will take place June 15 and 16 at the Paso Robles Event Center. All of the award-winning wines will be on display during fair time at the San Benito County Fair as well as the California Mid State Fair, Santa Barbara County Fair, Ventura County Fair and the Monterey County Fair.

The competition has grown in the last nine years and showcases some of the finest wines produced on the Central Coast.

San Benito resident named VP and manager at Pacific Valley Bank

SALINAS – Pacific Valley Bank, of Salinas, has expanded the cash management department with the addition of Jamie McClanahan as the vice president and cash management manager. McClanahan has 16 years of experience in banking, starting in operations with South Valley Bank in San Juan Bautista. She was most recently the VP, treasury relationship manager at Rabobank in Salinas.

McClanahan’s focus will be to ensure that the bank will be able to provide the broadest possible array of cash management products while providing the highest level of professional service.
