The local Juice It Up franchise has moved from the Clocktower Plaza into the retail center that houses KFC on McCray Street.
Owner Alissa Scagliotti, 25, bought the franchise in December 2008 and recently opened the new location with a few new offerings.
“It’s very different from the previous location,” she said, noting that the store now sells non-fat frozen yogurt called Ziiing. “We’ll have different flavors every week along with fresh fruit and dry toppings at a do-it-yourself yogurt bar” in which customers are charged by the weight of the toppings they add to their cool confection.
As for the new store, “it’s bright and fun,” said Scagliotti, a graduate of San Benito High School and California State University, Northridge. “All of our smoothies are the same, but it feels like a totally different store. The vibe is really good; it’s a fun store.”
Scagliotti says she expects that the new Juice It Up location will reach an expanded demographic.
“I feel like over there [at Clocktower Plaza, near Subway and Penguin’s Car Wash] we were a little more secluded,” she said. “We can tell people are trying us out. We’re getting some good feedback.”
Juice It Up, which is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, also offers snacks such as pretzels, bagged popcorn and vegan cookies.
“A lot of customers are excited because it’s hard to find vegan stuff in town,” Scagliotti said. “Most people can’t tell the cookies are vegan.”
In addition to smoothies and frozen yogurt, Juice It Up’s menu includes tea, coffee, juice and wheatgrass shots.
