The Hollister Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for a business that will sell firearms and ammunition on Industrial Drive.

The commission at its Aug. 26 meeting unamimously approved the permit for the new business – which needed the OK because the area is zoned for manufacturing and light industrial uses.

The city recently had received an application for the business on Industrial Drive that would sell firearms and ammunition. The proposal went before the Hollister Planning Commission and won’t need additional clearance from the council.

Frontsite Armory requested the conditional use permit in what is described as an existing metal industrial building. The staff report noted that the building would be used for a “firearms and ammunition sales business” at 847 Industrial Drive.

The meeting agenda noted that the area is zoned for M-1 Light Industrial.

The applicants for the use permit are Nick and Aileene Boffa, according to the staff report. That report noted that the business would be limited to about 130 square feet in the floor area, at the southwest portion of the building. There would be a front counter with an area for a gun safe, and grid racks and shelving along the rest of the walls behind the front counter, according to the report.

The remaining portion of the industrial building would continue including an existing auto collision and repair business.

There are 15 parking spaces, including one that is compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

The total size of the structure there is 24,835 square feet, while the project is exempt from California Environmental Quality Act requirements.
