The Marich Confectionery plant in Hollister will be expanding its chocolate horizons soon after the candy company submitted an application with the city to expand its existing facility at 2101 Bert Drive.
The expansion will include a nearly 50,000-square-foot addition – to the 75,000-square-foot plant – for warehouse use and to build four new loading docks, said Jill Morales, a planner with the Hollister Development Services Department.
Marich first expanded its facilities in 2006 by 20,000 feet. The chocolate connoisseurs first opened in Hollister in 1998 with over 50 workers. The company had 129 workers as of 2012.
Marich Confections was founded in 1983 by Marinus van Dam who, along with starting the candy company, also helped invent the Jelly Belly jelly beans, according to information from the Marich website.
