Memorial Golf Tournament
San Juan Oaks and Hollister Relay for Life are sponsoring the Kelly Freitas Memorial Golf Tournament July 15, with a shotgun start at noon. The event will benefit Hollister Relay for Life. The format will be a four-person scramble. It includes a steak and chicken barbecue dinner buffet immediately following the tournament. A silent auction will be held during the dinner. The cost for the tournament is $115 per player, and includes green fees, cart, range balls, on course contest and dinner. The price for dinner alone is $35 for adults and $15 for children 5-12. ‘The Music Man’

Multiple shows open at Monterey Museum
The Monterey Museum of Art has several shows on display, including “The Art of California, 1880 to present,” “Adams & Weston and the masters of California Photography, “California Artists and Portraiture,” and more. Downtown Street Festival
The 25th annual Street Festival and Car Show is July 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., in downtown Hollister. Admission is free and guests can also partake in a free slice of watermelon. Live entertainment will be provided by Vocal Variations, Crimson, Beer Nuts, Fender Benderz, DJ Rori G. Nelson, and local bands and youth performers. Ranger programs
Coyote-Bear County Park will host a ranger program July 16 from 9 to 11 a.m., entitled “Plan for Survival,” in which guests will learn how to overcome potential obstacles to surviving in the wild. The event starts at the ranger station. For ranger programs, bring sturdy shoes, water, sun protection and lunch or snacks. For campfire programs, bring a flashlight and warm clothing. Chitactac Family Day
Chitactac-Adams Heritage County Park will host Chitactac Family Day July 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy a fun-filled day celebrating Ohlone Indian Culture. Admission is free. Try your hand at playing Ohlone games. Make elderberry flutes and abalone pendants. Learn to process acorns and taste traditional foods. Use pump drills and watch tool making demonstrations. See ancient petroglyphs and discover the heritage and people of this ancient village site. Chitactac Park is mostly wheelchair accessible. This special day is appropriate for families with children. Chitactac-Adams Heritage County Park is located in South Santa Clara County on Watsonville Road between Morgan Hill and Gilroy. From U.S. 101, take the Tennant Avenue exit in Morgan Hill and proceed west towards Monterey Highway. Turn left onto Monterey Highway and travel approximately 0.5 mile south to Watsonville Road. Turn right at Watsonville Road and travel approximately 5.5 miles to the park site, located on the west side of the road and across from the intersection of Watsonville and Burchell Roads. The Monterey Jazz Festival and the Monterey Bay Aquarium present “Evenings by the Bay,” a summer concert series. Movies Under the Stars in Dunne Park
“Despicable Me” is the featured presentation at the July 21 Movies Under the Stars event at Dunne Park in Hollister. Sponsored by the Hollister Downtown Association and the Hollister Youth Alliance, showings begin a half hour after dusk and are free to the public. Movies are subject to change, there is limited capacity and all minors must be accompanied by an adult. The last movie will be “How to Train Your Dragon” on July 28.

The Monterey Jazz Festival and the Carmel Bach Festival are collaborating on a performance called Big Band Bach at the Sunset Center in Carmel on July 24 at 8:30 p.m. The jazz festival’s national high school all-star big band, the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, will perform alongside tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano and vocalist Alice Kirwan Murray. A summer movies series continues July 29 at the San Juan Bautista Elementary soccer field, with a viewing of “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” All viewings are free and start at sunset. The Gilroy Garlic Festival is July 29-31, at Christmas Hill Park, in Gilroy. The event is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event will feature a new Gourmet Alley food item, the Alley Wrap with steak and shrimp. Entertainment will include “Top Chef’s” Anthony Sosa, who will conduct a cooking demonstration July 30 and host the Garlic Showdown cooking competition July 31. Musical entertainment includes a wide variety of musicians on three stages, including Kip Moore. Admission is $17 for adults, $8 for seniors ages 60 and up and $8 for children ages 6-12. Texas Hold’em Tournament
The Hollister City Employee Relay for Life team will host a Texas Hold’em Tournament to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The event is July 30, at the S.D.E.S Portuguese Hall, 695 Seventh St., in Hollister. Doors open at 6 p.m., with games starting at 6:30 p.m. The cost is a $40 donation per person, with $20 for re-bys and $40 for one add on. Prizes will go to the top 10 finishers. The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office will host the “2011 National Night Out Against Crime” Aug. 2, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., in the Target parking lot at 1790 Airline Hwy. The annual event provides information to families about law enforcement and community partnerships that keep kids safe. This year’s event will feature music, live entertainment, face painting, raffle prizes and more. Free hot dogs and sodas will be given out. Kids can visit with McGruff, the Crime Dog.

The San Benito High School class of 1971 will host its fourth annual scholarship fundraiser Aug. 7, from noon to 4 p.m., at the Betabel Station Event Center, 9644 Betabel Road, in San Juan. The barbecue and silent auction costs $25 a person. The public is invited to attend. The scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors who plan to further their education at a college, university, technical school or vocational school. This year’s recipients included Sergio Alcala and Ruth Gutierrez-Nunez, who will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.
