Soul Kiss to perform at winery

Local band Soul Kiss will perform on July 8 as well as Aug. 12 and Sept. 23 at Sarah’s Vineyard, 4005 Hecker Pass Hwy. in Gilroy. The free concert will be held on the lawn of the vineyard, with doors opening at 6 p.m. Music begins at 7, with last call at 9:30 p.m. Food from local caterers will be available for purchase or guests can bring a picnic meal. ‘The Birdcage’

The Paper Wing Theatre Company presents “The Birdcage,” through July 9, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., at 320 Hoffman Avenue, in Monterey. The show tells the tale of Armand Goldman and his lover Albert, who own a drag night club in South Beach Miami. Chaos ensues when Armand’s son returns home with his fiancee, the daughter of a conservative senator. Tickets are $22 for general admission. Multiple shows open at Monterey Museum

The Monterey Museum of Art has several shows on display, including “The Art of California, 1880 to present,” “Adams & Weston and the masters of California Photography, “California Artists and Portraiture,” and more. The museum has locations at 559 Pacific St. and 720 Via Mirada. It is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults, $2.50 for students and military and children under 12 are free. ‘Once Upon a Mattress’

The Monterey Peninsula College Theatre Company, in association with the Forest Theater Guild, will present “Once Upon a Mattress,” July 1-24. Alli Battaglia & The Musical Brewing Co. will perform at the 9 Lives in Gilroy on July 9. The high-energy, “positive-vibed” band will be part of a show that also features Corduroy Jim and High Beamz, both Bay Area bands. Historical Society Open House

The San Benito County Historical Society will have an Open House in conjunction with a new display dedicated to past architects, contractors, carpenters, plasterers, and brick layers July 10, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Join in celebration of the men who helped build the town and meet some of these men who are still contributing to the community. The Museum is located at 498 Fifth St.; refreshments will be served.

Movies Under the Stars

“Megamind” is the featured presentation at the July 14 Movies Under the Stars event at Dunne Park in Hollister. Sponsored by the Hollister Downtown Association and the Hollister Youth Alliance, showings begin a half hour after dusk and are free to the public. Movies are subject to change, there is limited capacity and all minors must be accompanied by an adult. Upcoming movies include “Despicable Me” on July 21 and “How to Train Your Dragon” on July 28.

Memorial Golf Tournament

San Juan Oaks and Hollister Relay for Life are sponsoring the Kelly Freitas Memorial Golf Tournament July 15, with a shotgun start at noon. The event will benefit Hollister Relay for Life. The format will be a four-person scramble. It includes a steak and chicken barbecue dinner buffet immediately following the tournament. A silent auction will be held during the dinner. The cost for the tournament is $115 per player, and includes green fees, cart, range balls, on course contest and dinner. The price for dinner alone is $35 for adults and $15 for children 5-12. ‘The Music Man’

San Benito Stage Company presents Meredith Wilson’s “The Music Man,” July 15-16, 22-23, 29-30 at 7 p.m. and July 17, 24 and 30 at 2 p.m., at the Granada Theatre, 336 Fifth St., in Hollister. Downtown Street Festival

The 25th annual Street Festival and Car Show is July 16, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., in downtown Hollister. Admission is free and guests can also partake in a free slice of watermelon. Live entertainment will be provided by Vocal Variations, Crimson, Beer Nuts, Fender Benderz, DJ Rori G. Nelson, and local bands and youth performers. Ranger programs

Coyote-Bear County Park will host a ranger program July 16 from 9 to 11 a.m., entitled “Plan for Survival,” in which guests will learn how to overcome potential obstacles to surviving in the wild. The event starts at the ranger station. For ranger programs, bring sturdy shoes, water, sun protection and lunch or snacks. For campfire programs, bring a flashlight and warm clothing. Chitactac Family Day

Chitactac-Adams Heritage County Park will host Chitactac Family Day July 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy a fun-filled day celebrating Ohlone Indian Culture. Admission is free. Try your hand at playing Ohlone games. Make elderberry flutes and abalone pendants. Learn to process acorns and taste traditional foods. Use pump drills and watch tool making demonstrations. See ancient petroglyphs and discover the heritage and people of this ancient village site. Chitactac Park is mostly wheelchair accessible. This special day is appropriate for families with children. Chitactac-Adams Heritage County Park is located in South Santa Clara County on Watsonville Road between Morgan Hill and Gilroy. From U.S. 101, take the Tennant Avenue exit in Morgan Hill and proceed west towards Monterey Highway. Turn left onto Monterey Highway and travel approximately 0.5 mile south to Watsonville Road. Jazz Under the Stars

The Sixth annual Jazz Under the Stars outside of St. Benedict’s Church, July 23, from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The event will feature the Magnolia Jazz Band, food, wine and a silent auction. Jazz and Bach festivals collaborate

The Monterey Jazz Festival and the Carmel Bach Festival are collaborating on a performance called Big Band Bach at the Sunset Center in Carmel on July 24 at 8:30 p.m. The jazz festival’s national high school all-star big band, the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, will perform alongside tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano and vocalist Alice Kirwan Murray. Summer movies series

A summer movies series continues July 29 at the San Juan Bautista Elementary soccer field, with a viewing of “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” All viewings are free and start at sunset. All children must accompanied by a parent or guardian. No alcoholic beverages are permitted. The series is a collaboration of the Plaza History Association of San Juan Bautista State Historic Park and the San Juan Elementary home and school club. Earthbound Farms is a sponsor. More than 200 vendors selling a variety of antiques and collectibles as well as food will be at the Moss Landing Antique Street Fair on July 31.
