The YMCA of San Benito County welcomes the local community to Healthy Kids Day on April 25 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Healthy Kids Day is a free community event designed to inspire kids to keep their bodies and minds active through spring and summer.
‘Little Mermaid’ opens Friday
The San Benito Stage Company is presenting its next children’s musical, “The Little Mermaid.” It is set for 7 p.m. April 17, 18, 24 and 25 and then May 1 and 2. It is scheduled to show at 2 p.m. April 19, 25 and 26. The shows are set for the Granada Theatre, 336 Fifth St. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students or seniors. Healthy Kids Day get together
The YMCA of San Benito County welcomes the local community to Healthy Kids Day on April 25 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Healthy Kids Day is a free community event designed to inspire kids to keep their bodies and minds active through spring and summer. Healthy Kids Day features over 50 local community organizations, arts and crafts, face painting, sports and camp games for the child in everyone. The event will be held at the YMCA of San Benito County at 351 Tres Pinos Road in Hollister.
CASA fundraiser next week
CASA of San Benito County will be hosting its annual Cards For A Cause Fundraiser on April 25 from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Hollister Elks Lodge. Tickets are $60, which includes dinner and player’s choice of poker or bingo, or $45 for dinner only. Event also features raffles, auctions and more! Farr opens art contest
Congressman Sam Farr, D-Carmel, announced he is accepting submissions for the annual art contest among high school students in his district, which includes San Benito County. Farr is seeking submissions from student artists for the Congressional Art Competition. Participants can submit their art for the chance to have it displayed in the U.S. Capitol along with other students’ works from across the country. ‘Night to join scouting’
Boy Scouts of America will be holding “A Night to Join Scouting” at all Hollister School District Elementary Schools on April 29 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Parent and son, go to your child’s elementary school and sign up with your friends and classmates to become a scout. Cub Scouts is open to any student going into first grade in the fall through fifth grade boys, Boy Scouts is open to all sixth through 12th grade boys. The Hollister Downtown Association is hosting a Business Resources Seminar set for 6:30 p.m. April 30 at the Veterans Memorial Building. Gavilan presents ‘Evita’
Buy your tickets now for Gavilan College’s spring production of Evita.  This production is in collaboration with Christopher High School and is starring professional actress Lexie Dorsett Sharp in the title role of Evita. July 4 block party planning
Anyone wishing to close a street in the City of Hollister (a public right of way) for a block party at any time, but especially for 4th of July celebrations, must have permission from the City of Hollister. Applications are available in the City Clerk’s Office, City Hall, 375 Fifth St., Hollister, or by calling the City Clerk’s Office at (831) 636-4300, ext. 16 or 17. Applicants must submit a completed application for a block party as well as an executed hold harmless agreement, both of which are available from the City Clerk’s Office, as well as a certificate of insurance naming the City of Hollister as an additional insured. Certificates of insurance are usually available from a resident’s home owners insurance company. Normally a request is required to be submitted 30 days prior to an event. However, due to increased requests for 4th of July permits and scheduled City Council meetings, all completed applications for this 4th of July must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office no later than Thursday, June 4, 2015, at 5 p.m. For more, call Christine Black at (831) 636-4300, ext. 16. 
Japanese Temple Garden
