Hollister public works officials previously finished a project of swapping out sand and bark for a rubberized tire material at local parks.

The City of Hollister is receiving a $150,000 state grant to buy recycled tire material as fall protection at local parks.
The city council Tuesday is set to consider approving supplemental funds for the state grant through CalRecycle, which is funding it at 100 percent, according to a council agenda report.
Management Services Director Mike Chambless noted in the report how the city had been in a secondary group of applicants and was recently notified it would receive the funds. Hollister council members initially approved the grant last year.
According to the agenda report, the purchase of the mulch diverts an equivalent of 27,000 tires from a landfill.
