The City of Hollister is moving ahead on plans for a new dog park near the Hollister Municipal Airport.

City council members recently approved allocating $30,000 from a parks reserve fund to start work on expanding the parking lot to accommodate the dog park.

The park itself will be modified to provide access to a “critical water valve” at the back of the park and two fenced areas for large and small dogs, according to a city staff report. The lot will provide ADA access and additional parking, while also being in compliant with the city’s storm water plan.

The design of the dog park is done and also was approved by the council. Bids for the parking lot work should go out by late March, and the first phase is expected to be done by the end of the fiscal year June 30.
