While the city has continued suspension of a ban on sandwich board signs outside of downtown businesses, Hollister’s code enforcement office isn’t as sympathetic about neon or flashing signs.
The office sent a warning to downtown businesses this week about use of animated and neon signs, which had become prevalent in downtown window fronts. The office gave businesses until Feb. 5, or Thursday, to remove the signs or else they would face penalties.
Issues with neon signs downtown are just the latest for the city.
Hollister council members in August suspended enforcement of illegal sandwich board, or A-frame, signs in downtown Hollister. That prohibition remains suspended as the city figures out possible adjustments to the rules.
Examples of other prohibited signs in the code include canvas signs, rooftop signs and those producing odor or emissions.
