The Hollister City Council on Monday is set to consider an idea to move the Hollister Airshow from Memorial Day weekend to the weekend of July 4.

Council members will consider the proposal at their 6:30 p.m. Monday meeting at Hollister City Hall, 375 Fifth St.

The Hollister Airshow was held over Memorial Day weekend the first three years of the event.

Hollister officials in June talked about moving the event away from Memorial Day weekend so that weather and potential attendees’ busy schedules are less of a factor.

July 4 weekend might be somewhat of a problem, too, considering many families leave town and city officials have started talks of reviving a motorcycle rally, which traditionally has occurred around the same time frame.

Organizers blamed much of the disappointing 2012 numbers on inclement weather the first day Friday, when much of the final planning was happening, and then again on the first of two event days Saturday.

Officials also have discussed either trimming it to a one-day show or expanding into three days.

Expenses exceeded revenue by nearly $18,000 in 2012.
