The Council of San Benito County Governments board voted 3-2 on Friday in favor of using $9.6 million in local funds on the Highway 156 gap project, said Mary Dinkuhn, transportation planning manager.

In February the board voted in favor of the alternative No. 6 option. The district director, project development team and the Council of San Benito County Governments have opted for alternative 6, said Rheinheimer, which would have frontage road systems on both sides and the expressway in the middle.

The 156 gap project has been controversial among San Juan Bautista residents, Caltrans and COG.
