Rotary/HDA benefit

Time is running out to purchase your Rotary Club/HDA benefit BBQ ticket(s)! The Rotary Club and the HDA are partnering to raise money for the Rotary’s scholarship fund and for the downtown strategy plan. This BBQ will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 12 at the 400 Block lot on San Benito Street. For $30 you get a whole tri-tip, a whole loaf of garlic bread and the satisfaction of knowing that you are helping to fund two very worthy causes. You can purchase your ticket(s) from any Hollister Rotary Club member or by calling the Hollister Downtown Association office. Tickets are pre-sale only and must be purchased by April 6.

Car wash

The eighth-grade graduating class at Sacred Heart Parish School is holding a car wash Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon to help cover costs for the legacy gift. It will be at Sunnyslope Medical offices across from Sunnyslope School. There also will be a bake sale during the car wash.

Arts and crafts fest

The San Juan Bautista Fine Arts and Quality Crafts Festival is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 12-13 on Third Street. Downtown will have beautiful food and drinks and plenty of live entertainment. Shop, browse, feast and discover thousands of quality treasures from over 200 artists and craftsmen in the West.

Fibromyalgia support

The San Benito County Fibromyalgia Recovery Support Group meets on April 17 at 10 a.m. until noon in the Barbara Room of the San Benito County Free Library.  The group serves those diagnosed with FMS or CFS and their families who live in Hollister, Gilroy, and Morgan Hill.

Pancake breakfast

The SBC 4-H clubs will hold their annual pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon on April 20 at the Hollister Elk’s Lodge at the airport. The breakfast will include pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, juice and coffee. Proceeds go to support various 4- club in the county throughout the year. Tickets are available at the door for a donation of $5.

BLM service trip

If you enjoy a cool dip after a warm, moderate hike, join BLM staff and the Sierra Club on this volunteer service opportunity approximately, a 1.5-hour drive from the Monterey Bay coast. It’s the BLM Volunteer Service Trip to Laguna Creek and the Gorge on April 26-27. Participants will conduct minor trash pickup and develop a plant species list as they hike approximately two miles down to Laguna Creek and up to the Gorge. Camping is primitive (e.g. no water or facilities). This trip can be accomplished in one day if you prefer, but you don’t want to miss a fun evening under the stars and valley oaks.

Open Studios

The 18th annual San Benito Open Studios is coming soon, April 26 and April 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nine artists from Aromas, two from San Juan Batista and seven artists from Hollister invite you to visit their studios. This is a free event. It is a wonderful opportunity to see where artists work, ask questions, learn a new technique or talk to the artist about their creative process. This is your chance to buy a special piece of art at the artist’s price. Emmaus House seeks volunteers

Emmaus House, a safe shelter for women and their children that are victims of domestic violence is seeking additional volunteers to assist the staff and clients. Openings are available for transportation of clients, general housekeeping, children’s activities, bookkeeping, general office work and assisting house management with other necessary operations. Experienced counselors, teachers and health service personnel are also needed on a volunteer basis. Applications can be obtained by calling 831-636-7224 or by email to: [email protected].
